Nokia: Lumia sales still grew in the second quarter

Is Nokia relief happening? The results are still mixed. In the second quarter, the Finns displayed a loss (yet another) of EUR 115 million but is less than quarter previous (272 million) and much less a year where Nokia lost EUR 824 million over three months ago.

Turnover also continues to fold:-24% over one year (!) to EUR 5.69 billion and reached 32% in the mobile industry. The Group sold 61.1 million terminals 27% less than a year ago.

It is in the area of the 'feature-phones' that Nokia has suffered the most with a decline of 27% to 53.7 million units. Nokia indeed lost feathers in emerging markets that are turning more and more entry-level Android smartphones, particularly in China where sales of the group founded by 48%.

Sluggish sales in North America

But the Finns concentrated now all efforts in its Lumia under Windows Phone smartphones. And on this ground, the growth is there. Lumia sales bound by 32% on a quarter to 7.4 million units "reflecting strong demand on the part of consumers", says Nokia. It is indeed a level never reached by the group.

This result is even more tasty that the manufacturer has faced competition from size with the S4 from Samsung Galaxy or even the Z Sony Xperia. Only black point: the North America where sales are down from one year to the other with only 400,000 Lumia passed.

But after 5.6 million units in the first quarter, 4.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2012 and 2.9 million copies in the 3rd quarter of 2012, it seems that Nokia is on track even if a Samsung sells 8 times more smartphones...

Nokia can now count on a real range of products recently reinforced with the 1020 Lumia, who plays the card of innovation by the image and also the opening of other manufacturers Windows Phone services Here.

Finally, remember that Nokia has decided to buy the 50% of shares of Siemens in Nokia Siemens Networks to EUR 1.7 billion.

Mobiles and smartphones: Samsung crushes everything in the first quarter

Despite continued sales of smartphones soaring, the global mobile market struggling to advance in the first quarter, notes Gartner. 425.8 million units have been sold an annual increase of just 0.7 per cent from 2012.

Thanks to its massive portfolio of products, Samsung has consolidated its overall domination with a market share that earns 2.5 points to 23.6% (more than 100 million units sold). South Korean widens the gap with Nokia, whose share lost almost 5 points to 14.8%.

A year ago, Samsung sold "only" 6 million mobile more than Nokia. Today, the gap is 37 million units!

With 38 million of past terminals, Apple clings firmly to its third place in the world with a share going from 7.8 to 9%. LG is at the foot of the podium but it is very far from the trio of head with 15.6 million of past mobile.

 

On the side of smartphones, the dominance of Samsung is even stronger with 31% market share. The giant sold 64.7 210 millions of smartphones sold in the period!

Windows almost 3rd Phone

Apple manages the tour de force to maintain second (18.2% vs. 22.5% a year ago) despite the absence of novelty. LG seems to confirm his return in smartphones with a share that increased from 3.4 to 4.8% for 10 million units sold. The manufacturer is nevertheless become Huawei and ZTE.

 

In terms of OS, Android is obviously very much front with 74.4% versus 57% a year ago. Three quarters of the smartphones sold on the planet (156 million) are therefore driven by the Green robot.

Behind iOS (18%), other actors share crumbs. BlackBerry continues its fall despite the launch of the Z10 (3% vs. 6.8% with only 6.2 million past units).

As expected, Windows Phone is almost about to exceed the Canadian with 6 million terminals passed (including more than 5 million Nokia Lumia) and a share that increased from 1.9% to 2.9% in one year.
