D’après les estimations livrées par Strategy Analytics, Samsung a au deuxième trimestre largement dominé le marché mondial des terminaux mobiles en livrant 107 millions d’appareils en l’espace de trois mois.

Le constructeur coréen détient ainsi près de 28% du marché mondial. Sur le segment des smartphones, malgré les bonnes ventes de l’iPhone (31,2 millions d’unités écoulées par Apple), Samsung reste largement devant avec 76 millions de terminaux.

Nokia sur le déclin à cause de ses téléphones classiques

Au 2e trimestre, le fabricant coréen affiche ainsi une part de marché de 33%, quand Apple recule lui de 16,7% il y a un an à 13,6%. « La part de marché globale d’Apple est à son plus bas depuis le second trimestre 2010 » rappelle le dirigeant de Strategy Analytics, Neil Mawston.

L’ancienne gloire de la téléphonie mobile, Nokia, continue de sombrer avec des ventes de mobiles réduites de pratiquement un tiers sur un an. La part de marché du finlandais est ainsi tombé de 22,5% à 15,5%.

Si du côté d’IDC, qui a livré ses estimations pour le 2e trimestre 2013, les chiffres sont un peu différents, la tendance reste néanmoins la même. Sur un an, le marché des smartphones est en croissance de 52,3% avec 237,9 millions d’unités livrées dans le monde.

Apple progresse moins vite que le marché et perd du terrain

Et parmi les cinq principaux fabricants de smartphone, malgré des ventes supérieures aux attentes, Apple est celui dont la croissance est la plus modérée : 20%. C’est bien, mais dans le même temps, Samsung enregistre une hausse de 43,9% de ses livraisons, LG, Lenovo et ZTE de plus de 50% - et au-delà de 100% pour les chinois.

Ces progressions sont cependant à relativiser puisque ces fabricants partent de beaucoup plus bas et, pour Lenovo et ZTE, ils ne disposent pas d’une présence mondiale aussi forte qu’Apple et Samsung. Néanmoins, pour Apple, cette pression concurrentielle se traduit directement par un recul de sa part de marché à 13,1%. Et Samsung connaît un sort équivalent.

Patent war: Apple Gets a new ban from Samsung in the United States

Apple finally got a victory in court against Samsung in the United States: the International Trade Commission, the watchdog of the trade, issued late last week its decision to ban American territory the import of older models of smartphones and tablets Galaxy.

Pender, the ITC believes that these other four patents can be the source of a ban, as it does not see in the patents submitted by Samsung a ground of inadmissibility of Apple devices.

For Samsung, it's obviously disappointment. "However, Apple was dismissed in his attempt to use his patent design, too general, to ensure a monopoly on rectangles and rounded corners. "The right strategy for the smartphone industry is not the global war before the courts, but a competition just on the market."

No Obama veto in sight

Global has yet - war like Apple - powered Samsung chaining cases submitted to courts of the United States and other countries. Comme son grand rival Apple, Samsung est lui aussi confronté à une intensification de la concurrence. Pourtant, à première vue, tout va bien chez le coréen qui a fait état de nouveau de résultats record au 2e trimestre.

Samsung a ainsi réalisé un chiffre d’affaires de 39 milliards d’euros, en hausse de 20,7% sur un an. Le bénéfice net trimestriel progresse lui de près de 50% à 5,26 milliards d’euros. Pourquoi alors cette inquiétude des marchés financiers ?

Samsung promet de la croissance pour la fin 2013

Essentiellement car la division mobile de Samsung, qui représente pas moins de 61% de son chiffre d’affaires, voit sa croissance ralentir au 2e trimestre : +9%. Ce n’est toutefois pas une surprise puisque le constructeur en avait averti les investisseurs dès le 1er trimestre.

Ses ventes de smartphones, si elles augmentent toujours, le font à un rythme moindre. D’après les chiffres d’IDC, Samsung a vendu 70,7 millions de smartphones au 1er trimestre et 72,4 millions au second.

Mais Samsung a d’ores et déjà fait savoir que ses ventes de terminaux repartiraient plus nettement à la hausse dès le 3e trimestre.

« Nous ne pouvons pas occulter le fait que la relance économique en Europe se fait toujours attendre ni que nous sommes exposés aux risques d'une concurrence accrue dans les smartphones et d'autres produits » reconnaît dans le même temps le vice-président du fabricant, Robert Yi, cité par l’AFP.

La 4G est loin d'être une réalité homogène sur la planète. La faute notamment à l'utilisation de fréquences et de standards différents (FDD-LTE et TDD-LTE) dans les pays. Conséquence, un terminal 4G acheté aux Etats-Unis ne fonctionnera pas sur certains réseaux très haut débit mobile européens comme en France.

TDD LTE

Afin de lisser ces problèmes de compatibilité, le numéro un mondial prévoit que les nouveaux Galaxy S4 et S4 mini vendus à partir du troisième trimestre dans le monde pourront basculer automatiquement entre les différents réseaux 4G utilisés.

Car si le FDD-LTE est aujourd'hui la norme, le TDD-LTE est de plus en plus utilisé, notamment aux Etats-Unis, en Chine, en Australie, au Moyen-Orient et en Europe de l'Est. Selon Strategy Analytics, ce standard représentera 18% du LTE en 2015.

Smartphones: Samsung dominates again Apple

According estimates supplied by Strategy Analytics, Samsung has in the second quarter largely dominated the global market for mobile devices by delivering 107 million devices in the space of three months.

Samsung: record sales but slower on mobile

20 Samsung Galaxy S4 million passed. And doubts?

Launched late April, the last born of the Samsung Galaxy S, the S4 range, would be passed to 20 million units. 20 million terminals delivered (and not sold to the final consumer), it's better than for the S3 for which the manufacturer had to wait 100 days to achieve this milestone.

Les smartphones de Samsung seraient les plus autonomes, et de loin

Avec des écrans toujours plus grands et des capacités toujours plus puissantes, l'autonomie est devenue le grand point faible des smartphones. Il devient rare de pouvoir passer la journée sans devoir recharger, un point particulièrement gênant pour les pros qui ont un usage intensif de ces terminaux.

L'autonomie devient donc un critère de choix. Au-delà de la communication officielle des fabricants, le magazine allemand Computer Bild a tenu à en avoir le coeur net. Quels sont les modèles les plus endurants ? Le résultat est sans appel : Samsung occupe 7 des 10 places du classement (dont la première avec le Galaxy Note II) et Apple est désespérément absent. Seuls Sony, LG et Huawei tirent leur épingle du jeu.
