Motorola Moto X: all for it?...

After a long 'teasing' orchestrated masterfully, Motorola therefore finally lifted the veil on the Moto X, the first smartphone of the era Google, new owner of the American.

We were going to see what we were going to see, promised the manufacturer cutting snippets of information distilled for several months. With this terminal 'made in USA' (an additional argument?), Motorola would finally reconnect with success, who had for many years filling the place of second seller of the planet behind Nokia before sinking body and soul in the limbo of the world rankings, perfectly unable to renew themselves.

Is this the day of glory for the manufacturer?  Moto X does not seem to be a smartphone missed, it does for not announced breaking, which would make it a must.

The first design. If it is always a matter of taste, we can always see that this Moto X faithfully follows the trend towards standardization of form-factors. Nothing does distinguishes it from its direct competitors, including the Samsung. We know that propose a design of rupture can be penalising, loving consumers be reassured but here, not the shadow of originality.

2000 combinations, and after?

As finishes, plastic is once again in the spotlight. Although this lowers the price per unit, this does not necessarily want. For a return in force, it was expected maybe a little better, Motorola might of ogle on the side of Sony (Xperia Z) or even HTC (with the One) who have placed emphasis on noble materials such as aluminium.

Technical side, Motorola has not sought to play the race card to power even if its smartphone is 4G, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor 1.7 GHz associated with two specific cores and 2 GB of RAM-assisted.

The camera does "only" 10 megapixels but it really needs more? Nokia think so. On the other hand, Moto X proposes that a resolution 720 p, not 1080 p. However, the photo and video are at the heart of current uses. On the other hand, the manufacturer promises 24 hours of battery life, what may appear as an asset of size so obviously this is true.

No, very quickly, Motorola has highlighted the capabilities of customizing her baby promising "the first smartphone that you can draw yourself". Indeed, Moto X may be customized at the time of the order on the dedicated site motorcycle Maker. But in the end, the user can play with the colors of the shell (ultra-deja-vu), border and buttons.

Motorola promises 2000 combinations. And after? Customization of smartphones is not new and the manufacturer does finally nothing new.

Furthermore, it should be noted that this possibility is at the moment available only to subscribers of AT & T, since carried out only in the Texas plant of the group. The question is if Google plans to expand the concept to the whole world, which seems unlikely.

Really useful gesture innovations?

The subsidiary of Google also wanted to focus on ergonomics. It may be the point where the Moto X has a true asset. With Google Now assistant, always listening, it is possible to activate functions or schedule tasks to the voice. When it takes the phone, notifications appear on the lock screen, when it shakes, the camera activates...

On paper the ideas are interesting but are they not the gadget? Flying to the voice, déjà vu with Siri on iOS, is a fun five minutes but constitute a basic ergonomics? Is this a sufficient selling point? As gestural ergonomics, look to verify its effectiveness.

It will be recalled that the innovations of this type developed by Samsung for the S4 were promising but ultimately pretty painful to use and many users now prefer to do without. In short, even once, is this a selling point?

Finally this Moto X will not compete with Apple, Samsung, HTC and Sony on the high end. It does nor technophiles. This is not his goal. With a price below $ 200 with subscription and a focus on customization and usability, Motorola seeks to seduce, the middle of the market with fairly basic expectations.

Within this framework, the American manufacturer has perhaps his playing card. But compared to all the marketing operation that has been organized, compared the aroused expectations and promises that were made, might reasonably be a little disappointed. This Moto X isn't as an Androphone more?
